Game Day Thread: Canada vs. Italy
It's going to be uncompetitive, but it is the first look at the team Mark Messier built. Forgive the Italians if they can't keep up, there is an insane disparity between #1 and #16 in the hockey world.
The game is on TSN, and is available on their website (I believe it is, at least). Viewers not in Canada might have to watch via the IIHF website, which costs quite a lot for a single game (just shy of seven Euros). If anyone knows of another broadcaster for American viewers to tune in, let them know in the comments.

I believe TSN’s had international streaming rights for years. I remember watching a WJC in something like 2007 or 2008 on their site.

I know some things TSN has only been for Canada. I have no idea if this is one or not. Here’s the direct link!

I meant international hockey, sorry. I’m in Canada, too, as you know. =)

Well, we’re off.
Bourque-Stamkos-Perry start if off. Myers-Beauchemin on D.
Adam Russo playing net for Italy. Nothing like starting an IHL goalie against NHL stars.

Game on!
Seems like a generational change for Team Canada with all these talented kids. Should be a fun team to watch.

Doubt there will be a second assist

Canada down 2 men right now. Rare chance for Italy to tie it up.

The line of Steve Ott between Brooks Laich and Steve Downie is not going to be fun to play against. Laich is an honest grinder but a hard player; the other two are, uh, hard players.

Yep, no other team has quite that level of agitating players on their roster here… not even Finland!

Azzurri!
Point shot by Michelle Strazabossco, not even one of their expected scorers, ties it up with a one timer from the point.

2-1 Canada
PP goal from Kris Russell after a nice play by Ray Whitney. That PP looked bad, gave up a SH breakaway even.

Ray Whitney proves there’s room for a little veteran savvy on this squad. Nice move and pass to set up Kris Russell for the 2-1 goal.

I can’t find live game stats on the IIHF site. Are they not doing that this year, or am I just not clicking the right tab?

It’s kind of hidden. It’s part of the scoreboard at the top, there is a clock in the corner that has a pop-up for game action.
If you’re looking for individual player stats, I think those get loaded by period. At least that’s what happened at the WJC’s.
Puck Worlds: Chasing Pucks from here to Turku.
I keep clicking on that little clock and nothing happens.

3-1 Canada
Matt Duchene got the 3rd goal, from Whitney and Burns. Whitney with 2 assists.
Shots aren’t completely lopsided… I think they’re at 19-12 right now for Canada.

4-1
Stamkos on a delayed penalty. Duchene set him up.
And they’re playing “Summer of ’69” in the rink.

Duchene was the man that jumped off the bench for the extended 6-on-5. Instant chemistry between him and Stamkos!

Surely that’s not the only Canadian song they know in Germany…

3rd period about to start. New goalie for Italy… yet another Canadian playing goal: Daniel Bellisimo following Adam Russo.

I was making breakfast … why the switch? Russo was doing alright.

I think because both are Canadian born, they wanted both to get the chance to play against the NHLers.

What with Downie, Ott, and Perry, Canada’s got a full quota of douchebags on this club.

Definitely. Wonder if they’ll make Carcillo a late addition if Philly gets knocked out?

Not a blowout, but nothing to sweat about, either. Good show by Italy. Canada has some interesting lines developing.

Playing with a pair of 19-year-olds, Ray looked like a young colt himself out there today. Easily could have had 4 or 5 points instead of just the 2 beauty assists.
