Last night, the Calgary Hitmen finished off the Tri-City Americans in the WHL Final, winning both the game and the series 4-1. The Hitmen were awarded the Ed Chynoweth Cup for the second time in franchise history, and have earned a berth in the 2010 Memorial Cup; their first game is a week from today against the QMJHL champion. LA Kings prospect Martin Jones was named playoff MVP.

He was outstanding in the game and really, most of the last two series. Windsor scares me, but with how Jones is playing, and how he already kept back the Wheaties, maybe a little less so that before.
Also, for the benefit of those interested, nearly 130 pictures from last night’s event, most of them after the final whistle, here.

And yes, after how last year turned out, it feels pretty damned good to make it happen this time around. As a collection of players, it’s an inferior group to last year, but as a team, I think they’ve played much better, much smarter this time around. They’ve actually had to work for it this time, which has severely reduced their bad habits — they still get too cute with the puck sometimes, but it’s a minor beef compared to the sloppiness that ruled their game for much of last year’s playoff.
