The World Junior Club Cup is now two days old, and we already know one of the finalists in Energie Karlovy Vary of the Czech Republic. In Group A, the EJHL All-Stars from the USA have been surprisingly potent and lead their group, heading for a showdown on Friday vs. CSKA Moscow.
The first ever World Junior Club Cup begins on Tuesday in Omsk, Russia, featuring junior clubs from eight different countries. While its interesting to compare the teams from various countries and leagues, a lot of the talk has been about who hasn't shown up at the inaugural edition.
Games today at the Spengler Cup include Team Canada against Spartak Moscow, featuring former NHL legends Mark Messier (Team Canada coach) and Dominik Hasek (goaltender for Spartak). At the 2011 IIHF WJHCs, Slovakia takes on Germany and the Czechs debut against Norway.
Over the past two years, former participants in the Champions Hockey League have been trying to get compensation for lost revenue from the IIHF after the cancellation of both the 2009-10 season and the current one. Now, SC Bern is taking the IIHF to court to settle the dispute, with other teams looking to follow.

The European Trophy is supposed to show that hockey fans across the continent are ready for a pan-European league. It's a pre-season tournament, so it's not a perfect measurement, but so far it's only the Germans who are embracing the concept.
